Winston Churchill said that "To improve is to change, so to be perfect is to change often". We are not trying to achieve the perfect balance between protecting children and preventing unwarranted governmental interference (UGI) but we do know that California needs to change. Protecting a child oftentimes means keeping the child with the ones that love them that don't have enough resources to adequately feed, clothe and provide shelter for their own children according to today's standards. India understands this and resistance is gathering to keep our juvenile dependency court systems out of that country. Protecting a child oftentimes means refusing to take custody from the parent with less money who works more often and longer hours. Protecting a child oftentimes means keeping the child away from psychologists, child custody evaluators, minor counsel, guardian ad litems, therapists, and other self-serving professionals who rely on the family courts for their incomes, #NoAFCC. Protecting a child from "conflict" oftentimes is not acceptable since children learn from observing and engaging in appropriate conflict with others, especially their own siblings, who are repeatedly separated from each other by both the family and juvenile dependency courts, #ResolveConflictQuickly, #PreventUGI. Do we need to change our family and juvenile dependency courts here in California? Absolutely, and I would never claim that the systems in Texas are perfect, but they are sure working a lot better than ours are. Not a single major Texas city makes any of our nations' top homelessness lists and Texas's ongoing crime statistics are so far below California's, that it should be embarrassing for us. In the words of another world leader, "The nine most terrifying words in the English language are, "I'm from the government and I'm here to help.'" #PreventUGI
The Declaration of Independence says, "But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.” In the words of a popular movie, National Treasure, it means "If there's something wrong, those who have the ability to take action have the responsibility to take action". RaiseYourRights is taking action to protect our nation's children from what is happening to them through our family and juvenile dependency courts while they are so vulnerable. Our goal is to keep children surrounded by the ones who love then and will hopefully help them grow to be responsible, caring, respectful adults.
